With a good video camera, film or digital camera it is possible to produce professional quality photos of products, family, friends and yourself.With better photo lighting, making standard pictures into quality photo's can be accomplished.Lighting methods for photography are quite varied, some of these techniques can and will make a world of difference in your photography. In taking the initial step to understanding photography lighting, it's important to understand light measurement.

 

A primary purpose of a photography lighting system is to illuminate a subject to allow for and achieve a desired affect or to properly capture an image.Producing high quality photography photo's is accomplised with a variety of lighting condtions to achieve the desired illumination and ultimately the result of the look and feel your after.

 

Photo lighting kits can be utilized to add light to an otherwise dull subject or image and make it come to life in a brilliant photo.Changing or controlling light or the lighting conditions if at all possible help photographer's create amazing photo's.Most camera owner's find out that the on camera flash doesn't help very much in trying to capture a high quality photograph. Not only are most flash’s on standard camera’s too bright at such a close distance, but it is also probably in the wrong position to actually light up the subject or product properly.

 

On camera flashes are also ineffective at lighting up things at a distance. Getting good photographs consistently as most photographer's know requires deliberately lighting what you are shooting with a quality light source .  Photographer’s utilize not only flash, but may often use a fluorescent photo lighting kit or one of three types of halogen lighting kits for the desired affect and outcome of their photos.  Both fluorescent and a halogen photo lighting create a continuous light source, where as flash simply follows it’s namesake and is thus not continuous lighting.Studio lighting or flash bulbs along with other types of artificial lighting can either help to minimize appearances of features or draw attention to them. New photographer's may find when relying solely on the bulb from the on camera flash that subjects often end up with red eyes or a harsh burst of light in their photos.

 

Once you have proper photography lighting, it is important for the camera that you are using to be able to read shade.  So your focal point which is at the center of your frame must point to the shady area and not to a bright spot behind the more darkly lit subject, or your subject will likely appear as a silhouette.Simply practice this to soften and lesson shadows created by your light source.
